Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-Na) is an organic compound with the chemical formula [C6H7O2(OH)2OCH2COONa]n. It is a carboxymethylated derivative of cellulose and the most important ionic cellulose gum. CMC-Na is a white fibrous or granular powder, odorless, tasteless, hygroscopic, and easily dispersed in water to form a transparent colloidal solution.
Carboxymethylcellulose sodium  (NaCMC) is also known as cellulose gum or CMC. It is a water-soluble cellulose derivative derived from natural cellulose. It is produced by chemically modifying cellulose through the introduction of carboxymethyl groups.
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is water-soluble, forming a viscous and clear solution. This property makes it useful in various applications. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose  e466 is often used as a thickening agent. It increases the viscosity of solutions, providing the desired texture in products such as food items, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products.
