Potassium carbonate is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula K2CO3, white crystalline powder. The density is 2.428g/cm3. It has a melting point of 891°C, decomposes at the boiling point, and a relative molecular weight of 138.21. Soluble in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. It has strong hygroscopicity and can absorb carbon dioxide and moisture when exposed to the air and transform into potassium bicarbonate, which should be sealed and packaged.
